30 September 2014

We are boring.

I'm getting pretty slack on this little blog, aren't I? That's not good either, considering we now live 12+ hours away from ALL family.  :(  And plus, one of these days Winslow is going to sit quietly on the couch when he's 10 years old reading about his life when he was 1..right?

We're slowly getting the hang of our new town and such.  It's a lot different than NC for sure..the weather is still 90 degrees, no sign of fall, and rain every single day for the past week.  That's okay, but I'd like the sun to come out soon.  And fall weather would be nice..but that's what you get when you live in south Florida.

Hubby is now on week 2 of his job and loving it.  He LOVES it.  Which is awesome.  And I am LOVING being a stay at home mom.  Although we are looking for ways to get involved with other babies and mommies so hopefully that will come soon.  We've been trying out new churches in the area and sending Winslow to the nursery which he LOVES.  One of the workers last week told us that Winslow is a genius and so smart because he just figures things out.  It made us puff up like a fish, as my nanny would say.  We were so proud.

This little boy is becoming smarter by the day.  He really is.  13 months is such a FUN age.  He can now say Darla, daddy, mommy, bye, hi, ball, and i promise i thought he said Elmo earlier..but he wouldn't say it again.

He NEVER and I mean NEVER sits still when he's awake.  His favorite thing to do now is grab a book, come up to me and lift his hands up to get on my lap.  Pretty much the sweetest thing ever. He also loves toting around his daddy's tennis raquets and throwing his food on the floor for Darla to eat.  Not cool, little man, not cool.  He loves doing it though.

He's still taking two naps and they are 1.5 hours long.  The second nap sometimes is shorter, around 1 hour, and he still gets up once to nurse at night.

Our little Florida town (well it's not really little) is wonderful though.  We frequent the pool 4 times a week, at least and have been to the beach a few times.  I have worn the same pair of shorts almost every single day and I think that's a sign I need a couple more pair.  I don't think it even reaches below 60 degrees here...and so that means I need more shorts.

And I really cannot believe it's OCTOBER.  Wow, this year has flown by.  I am searching for a pumpkin patch for us to visit..even if it is 85 outside...you better believe I'm putting Winslow in his mustard yellow skinny jeans and his chambray button down.  He can't protest, so I'll take advantage of that. ;)

and yep, I don't put clothes on my son during the day.  Is it
because he wears cute diapers or it's too hot?  Probably both.

And look at this smile.  Heartbreaker!

Stitch Fix #5 (Selfie Style!)

It's that time again!  My favorite package arrived on my doorstep yesterday.  STITCHFIX!  I skipped a month due to our move but am so glad to be back.

What is Stitchfix?

Stitch Fix is an online personal stylist-
You create an online profile.
You get five hand picked items.
Keep what you love, send back what you don't..
You sign up here and pay $20 a month to have someone pick out five pieces of clothing for you that gets mailed to your door!  The bonus is if you keep any items, you get to put the $20 styling fee towards your clothing.

You can pick your price points (I chose "the cheapest option" and then they'll send you items for you to try on at home, and you return them in three days(in a prepaid envelope).  If you like all the items, you can get  25% your whole order!

I was a little bummed I didn't get my usual Stylist, Patrice, but I figured it would change since I moved my boxes delivery date.

Also, with hubby's new job and regular hours (praise the Lord!)  he wasn't home to photograph me...so selfie's it is.  #donthate

Here's what was in my box this month:

1. Micah Dotted Chevron Ruffle Neck Blouse-  $58

Loved this blouse. So feminine, yet edgy. Does that make sense?  I loved the ruffle neck, loved the pattern and was THIS close to keeping it. But decided I would rather spend my money on a dress (that I requested for my next fix)... SENT BACK.

2. Abigail Colorblock Lace Trim Top-  $58

Swoon.  The Abigail Colorblock Lace trim top is gorgeous.  The lace detail at the top is so romantic and the color is one that I think can easily be worn into the fall season.  Pair it with a cardigan and some black skinnies?  Yep.  The material is SO soft and I loved the bold color.  The back is black (not pictured) and I will definitely get a lot of use out of this.  KEPT.

3. Benfield Heathered Drape Front Cardigan- $58

When I took this out of the box, I wasn't that excited.  But then I put it on and my mind changed.  I liked it a lot!  It's navy, which is a great color for fall and the material is very soft and warm.  However,  I wasn't in love. and plus, I have 10948 cardigans in my closet already.  SENT BACK

4. Shailey Abstract Print Key-Hole Blouse- $48

Loved the color.  Not the fit.  It was too short and boxy around my mid section.  It was probably supposed to be like that (not sure though) but just not my style.  I feel like if I wore this people would think I'm either pudgy trying to hide my belly or just pregnant.  No thanks.    SENT BACK

5. Liverpool Collen Straight Leg Jean

So I previously had ask for no jeans.  And got jeans.  But I think it's because my previous stylist, Patrice, didn't pick my items.  She would have remembered but this new stylist didn't know..so I should have asked for no jeans again.  Oh well.  I did love the jeans. They fit GREAT and were nicer than my $10 Old Navy pair that are about to head to the trash. ;)  The color was just okay and the price was decent for a GOOD quality pair of jeans, but I haven't worn jeans since moving to Florida because, hello, it's 99 degrees outside still.  Oh, hey fall!  #not  Anyway,  I did like them, but just not want I wanted this month.  SENT BACK.

So overall, I kept one item.  Am I still in love with Sitch Fix?  YES.  Did I send them a love letter via email?  YES.  I emailed them to let them know how happy I was with their services and to beg to have Patrice as my stylist each time.

Their response?

"I am so glad you are loving your experience with us! So great to hear positive feedback.  I have made a note on your account to have Patrice style your future fixes..."

AMEN.

That's wonderful customer service.  Stitch Fix, you get an A+.  Thank you for making this toddler momma who has no time to shop for herself look halfway decent!

So, what'd you think?  Which was your favorite?  If you'd like to sign up, go here! (And I'll get a referral credit!)  You won't regret it!  And plus, if you find it's not for you, just cancel anytime!  But I think you'll like it.

BTW, thank you to my readers for signing up through my link! The shirt from this fix was partially paid for because of my wonderful readers! THANKS! :)

For the friends/folks/family who live far far away...

Because you ALWAYS need a photo shoot when you find overalls at the consignment sale for $4.

Love this little rambunctious monkey.  SO much it hurts.

15 September 2014

I think I like it here.

Florida is treating us well.  I am pretty sure I'm likin' it.  And the weather is pretty much wonderful.  Although, I would like to remember what fall is like...oh well, it's funner to swim in December anyway, right?

I did decorate the front porch and make pumpkin bread tonight.  If it doesn't feel like fall, it'll still look like it around here.  :)

I've slowly been putting things on the walls but still am not in love with my decorating skills.  I need my momma! (You hear that, ma!?)  I did make a mini-collage in W's room that I love.  See below:

We have unpacked the majority of our things, except for the third bedroom...that room shall be called "The West Wing" like in Beauty and the Beast.  No one is allowed to go in there. Maybe one day I will get brave and conquor it.

I've also been wanting to read a book book and have had a few friends reccomend Surprised by Motherhood by Lisa Jo Baker. I can't wait to read it.  And I picked up a Praise Baby CD for Winslow to listen to in the car.
Besides being beach bums, we haven't done much around here!  I like it that way.  Maybe soon we will make some new friends and can have playdates. Hubby starts work on Monday and this momma can't be cooped up at home all day with a wild child.
Hopefully I'll have some pics of our new place soon!

Until next time,

I'm alive!

Y'all. We've been without internet for 2 weeks now.. and it feels like years.  Can you say first world problems?

That's why I've not been updating you on our journey to the Sunshine state!  Don't worry, I'll fill you in ASAP.

We have internet now so be expecting a few updates soon.

In a nutshell, here's what has been going on:

-Moved to Florida and stayed in a hotel for six days.  (It STUNK.  Baby didn't sleep..we had a dog in the room, we were having to look for places to live with NO idea about the area).  Wasn't fun, but it was necessary.
-Finally found a cozy little place to live in a gated community with a heated pool.  Can you say swimming in December?  Heck yes.
-Been unpacking and unpacking like crazy.  The house is pretty much done except for our third bedroom which is full of boxes.  I hate unpacking.  Maybe I'll just donate the whole room to Goodwill.  We've already taken a truck load there once and it feels so good to downsize.  (You hear that, mom??!)  I haven't even missed our stuff.  We plan on downsizing even more too.  We moved from a 2200 sq foot home to less than 1200...so it was necessary.
-Winslow is INTO everything.  He's walking/running all over the place. I can't keep up with him.
-Hubby starts his new job in 1.5 weeks.  So we still have a few days to explore, unpack, and take it easy.

That's us in a nutshell.

I promise to update more soon, now that we are back in the 21 century.

Here is Frankenstein in his skeleton jammies.  :)

01 September 2014

That time we moved to Florida.

Oh hey.  We live in Florida now.

Not much time to update as we are sitting in a hotel room waiting on baby to wake up so we can go house hunting.  Sounds fun, right?

No.

You probably want an explanation right?

We've been keeping it to ourselves for a while because we had so much happen in such a short amount of time and didn't have all the details ironed out.  Don't believe me?  Listen here:

1.  Hubby graduated with his Master's on August 13. {Insert chorus here}

2.  Hubby applies for a zillion jobs...gets a few interviews for Atlanta, GA-Las Vegas-Florida.

3. Gets a job OFFER from Las Vegas...hey! We are moving to Vegas!

4. Packed up U-Haul and mentally prepared to drive 38+ hours with a 1 year old.

5. The day before leaving for Vegas, hubby gets a job offer in Sarasota, Florida. Higher position, more money...here we come!

6.  12+ hours later...

CRAZYness.

Say a prayer that we find a place to live ASAP.  Living in a hotel is no fun with three adults, a dog, and a baby (my mom is helping us move, thank the good lord!)

More updates to come, I promise.

And I could easily get used to life on the beach.

:)
